Day of sustainable tourism in the Garrotxa
the day 27 September marks the Day of Sustainable Tourism. For this reason, Documentation Centre of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, amb la col·laboració de l’Arxiu Comarcal de la Garrotxa, Documentation Centre of the Landscape Observatory and several public libraries in the region, have organized different samples of documents related to this matter.
File Garrotxa, specifically, hi ha instal·lat una vitrina a la sala de consulta en la qual es podran veure cartells, administrative documents, advertising sheets, photographs and other materials that reflect the start of tourism promotion Olot, before the Civil War.
Since the late nineteenth century, Olot was a summer resort for wealthy families in Barcelona. The "foreign colony" had a notable impact on the social and cultural life of the city until the thirties. "The prodigality of beauty that Mother Nature has poured into our surroundings", proclaiming a full year 1931, made, ben
soon, Olot wanted to spread these virtues everywhere. The first guides Olot and its surroundings date from 1895 (Ramon Bolòs) i 1913 (Jose Gelabert).
Promoting tourism in the city was also matinera: After a first attempt, l’any 1913, the creation of the Union of Initiative Olot care of a dozen local leaders, l’any 1931 Olot City Council launched the company Attracting Strangers, with the intention of "outsiders honor us with their visits are with us all the attractions and the most frank and affectionate welcome". This organization held a poster contest to promote the image of the city, who won the graphic artist Josep M. Dou a sign that part of the sample.
